Frequently Asked Questions

Counseling, Coaching, Consulting. What is the difference?

Counseling is a clinical service focused on mental health, emotional healing, and personal growth, provided by a licensed professional. Due to licensing requirements, counseling through Brilliant Creations is available only to individuals physically located in Texas at the time of service.

Coaching is a non-clinical, goal-oriented process that supports clarity, personal development, and forward movement. Experiential coaching moves beyond insight into real-time experiences, helping you actively shift patterns, deepen self-awareness and create lasting change.

Consulting is more directive, offering expert guidance and practical strategies. Both coaching and consulting may integrate tools such as the Highlands Ability Battery, The Ultimate Source, and Gestalt-based approaches. Coaching and Consulting services are available to clients globally.

How does virtual counseling, coaching, & consulting work?

Many insurance plans now cover telehealth/virtual sessions the same way they cover in-office therapy, which can make getting started easier and more affordable. Because every plan is different, it is important to verify your benefits and make sure your counselor is in-network.

Checking your coverage ahead of time helps you avoid surprises and move forward with confidence. That way, you can stay focused on your healing instead of worrying about unexpected fees. At this time Brilliant Creations Counseling PLLC is only able to accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas insurance plans.

Will you offer in-person sessions in the future?

At this time, sessions are offered virtually only with the exception of potential consulting groups. This allows you to receive consistent support with more flexibility and convenience, without the added stress of commuting to an office.

If in-person services become available in the future, clients will be informed and can choose the option that best supports their needs. The goal is always to make counseling, coaching, and consulting as accessible and effective as possible.

What qualifies someone to be an LPC?

A Licensed Professional Counselor has completed years of higher education, supervised clinical training, and state licensing requirements in order to provide professional mental health care. This includes graduate-level counseling education, extensive internship experience, and post-graduate supervised hours working directly with clients.

In other words, your counselor is highly trained to help you navigate life’s challenges with skill, care, and professionalism. You do not have to figure things out alone, and you do not have to guess whether you are getting qualified support.

Can my Brilliant Creations counselor evaluate for or prescribe medications?

Licensed Professional Counselors do not prescribe medication. If medication may be helpful as part of your care, your counselor can help guide you toward a psychiatrist or other medical provider for further evaluation.

Therapy and medication can work well together for some people, and your counselor can help you explore what kind of support fits your needs. When appropriate, care can also be coordinated with your medical providers to better support your progress.

How long until I am “better” in counseling?

Healing is not one-size-fits-all. Some clients begin to feel relief within a few sessions, while others need more time to work through deeper patterns, painful experiences, or long-standing stressors.

What matters most is that you are moving forward. Your counselor will help you set goals, measure progress, and stay engaged in a process designed to help you experience meaningful and lasting change.

Will I have “homework"?

Counseling & coaching is tailored to you, which means any between-session work should fit your goals, preferences, and capacity. Some clients benefit from journaling, reflection, practicing coping skills, or trying small action steps between appointments.

These tools are never about pressure or perfection. They are meant to help you build momentum outside of session so the work you are doing can carry into everyday life.

What is the cancellation policy?

A 24-hour notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling. This policy protects your appointment time and allows space for other clients who may be waiting for support.

If an appointment is missed or canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, the full session fee or contracted insurance rate will be charged. This helps maintain fairness and consistency for all clients.

What are your office hours?

Appointments are available Mondays -Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Services are not offered on Fridays and weekends at this time.

These hours are designed to give clients access to care during a range of daytime and evening availability. Telehealth also makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.

Do you offer sliding scale?

A limited number of sliding scale spots may be available for clients with financial need. Availability is limited and may vary over time.

If cost is a barrier, reach out to ask about current options. The goal is to help make care more accessible whenever possible.

Can I schedule an appointment for someone else?

A parent or legal guardian may schedule services for a minor child. For adults age 18 and older, the individual must contact the practice directly to schedule their own appointment.

This helps ensure that therapy begins with the client’s consent, readiness, and personal investment in the process. That first step matters.

Do you do couples counseling?

Couples counseling may be available on a case-by-case basis depending on the counselor’s availability and clinical focus. Not every situation is the right fit, but you are welcome to reach out and ask.

If couples counseling is not available, you may still be guided toward the right next step or referred to another trusted provider. The priority is helping you find the support that best meets your needs.

Do you write Emotional Support Animals (ESA) letters?

ESA letters are not provided through this practice.

If this is a service you need, a referral to an appropriate provider can be offered. The goal is to point you in the right direction so you can get the support you are looking for.
